Set on over 1,200 acres of land, the University of Wisconsin Arboretum has more than 20 miles of walking trails running through ecological areas as diverse as tallgrass prairies, savannas, wetlands and forests. This abundance of untouched wilderness has attracted many species of wildlife, and the center runs a varied selection of nature walks, lectures and classes. In addition to the public collection of artifacts on display in the visitor center, the arboretum also serves as a famous research center, and explores the restoration of flora and fauna not only locally but in ecosystems around the world. Positioned on the southern shore of Lake Wingra, the arboretum is nestled between the Nakoma Golf Club and Duane F. Bowman Park.
